    python or lua?

Not exactly a technical problem but I was wondering if one has the edge over the other when it comes to MMF2 scripting.

Python is far more well known and I would have gone with it had it not been for the fact that the python sub-forum seems dead and people still seem to be using lua more. I know the lua object has been around for longer and people must be more experienced with using that but for someone who starts only now with scripting which would you recommend?

    Lua.

Lua is faster, Lua has OpenGL support, Python smells funny.

Sorry, I would like to correct you here.
LuaJIT might be a bit faster than CPython, but in regards to using it with MMF2 (and especially when applying psyco, the Python JIT optimizer), there's no big advantage to be found.
Python also has OpenGL support; I currently use OpenGL for the Anaconda runtime, and it works well.
Python definitely does not smell funny (depending on what you mean by "smells funny, that is). I've used both languages for years, and Python is, in my opinion, a language that's much easier to understand and learn (I especially don't like Lua's countless "end"s).

Back to the original question. People within the MMF2 community don't know Python well, and that might be one of the reasons why the Python sub-forum might seem dead (even though I often receive PMs and e-mails in regards to the object).

Python is, in my humble opinion, a better choice than Lua.

    Re: python or lua?

Personally if I were you, I'd pioneer the Python scripting trend. But, then again, if I wasn't feeling too adventurous I might go with the more well known LUA.

Take it or leave it, either is nice! But I'd really like to see more Python action to start generating a bit of interest and helpers so I might be able to.. erm.. join (I guess if I were you I'd choose neither! x) Apparently I have no confidence)
