    Window's Edge

Hello again, I've decided to continue some on my project, and then I gotta follow up on those questions I had.

One thing Im really having a hard time on fixing is stuff working in and out of the play area. I know there is an event that says "xx pixels away from window's edge", but this event does not seem to work for me. My current solution for this is to have a huge invisible box that blocks the window, and have events such as "Enemy is overlapping BigBox" instead of "Enemy is in the Play Area". I dont know if this is a good choice due to lag and stuff, but atm I have no choice. The playarea events simply arent working for me. Forexample, I tried "Enemy is -50 pixels away from window's edge", and I tried with a +50 just to check both ways, but none of them had the result I wanted. I dont remember which, but one made the enemy event run only when it was 50 pixels away from the border, which it should. The second event completely ignored this part, and ran the event when the enemy was in the zone and when it was out. Is there a common issue in my event? I have really never gotten this to work...

Positive numbers mean inside the screen, that many pixels away from the edge of the frame window. Negative numbers mean outside the screen, that many pixels away from the edge of the frame window.

Okay.. But it still doesn't quite give the result I want. Maybe Im using this event wrong. I have an enemy that spits fire, but I just want him to run the event for this when he is 50 pixels or closer or in the frame. I have multiply of this enemy around the level. How would this event look?

One thing that I often miss is the difference between = and >=
If you use just = then it is possible that the speed of your object missed that 1pixel moment when it is actually equal.

Generally I (try to remember to) use <= and >=

    Re: Window's Edge

I was going to ask the same question!

One thing that I have noticed about the "object is getting closer than X pixels from window's edge" is that the condition ignores new instances.

Say; instance A enters the viewable screen (using edge condition), an event happens the instance A. Now Instance B enters the viewable scene, while instance A is still also visible. Now B will not perform the same event, as instance A is already here.

That might be stupidly explained, I'll make an example using instances and values.

The thing about this event is that its not using this scrolldown menu option with Greater, Lower, Equal... etc., its just a pure command box. I tried using <> signs, but it just resulted in Syntax Error

    Re: Window's Edge

No sorry my bad. I screwed up when trying to advance the condition.

Frame 1 shows that it does work as it should. Frame 2 shows my problem.

    Re: Window's Edge

This works, but my problem comes once I want the event to start a little bit before the object enters the frame area, and not on 0. It doesnt make sense tho why its not working :S

    Re: Window's Edge

In my example, set the conditions to:
    - (negate) Closer than -50
    - Closer than -50

It just has to be a negative number if you want to detect your object outside of the field.

    Re: Window's Edge

lol, its working But someone will have to explain to me sometime why I have to negate this event to make it work. Object is NOT -50 pixels or clower to windows edge ??

    - And ofcourse, thanks a lot - now I can continue on my project (:
