    Beta 19: Add to background "smearing" and glitch

    I've run into what I think is a bug with virtual scrolling and adding backdrops. I don't think it's specific to iOS, but I'm unsure so I thought I'd post it here anyway.

    What I've got is a frame with virtual height = -1, and scrolling coefficient for the layer = -1.0



    Basically there are two problems, firstly the backdrops are sometimes not placed in the correct place (see 1. on the attached image). They are offset by a strange amount, even when the active is in the correct place. That is to say, looking at the code, the active is only ever "moves" 40 pixels up or down, yet the image is not pasted in this area.

    Secondly, there is some "smearing" occuring which can be seen by the motif quick backdrop on the right. (see 2. on the attached image)

    The behaviour seems to depend a lot on where you place the active initially as well. If you place the active in a place where its Y position is a multiple of its height (e.g. at (0,0)), then the smearing and glitching doesn't seem to occur.

    This problem does not happen with the non-hwa version of MMF. I cant test with the HWA, so I guess this is up to Yves now.

    I don't see what you mean Francois, this MFA is not in HWA mode and is executed by the non HWA runtime. And there is the same problem with both the HWA and non HWA runtimes.

    I won't look at this problem now, sorry, too many things to do.

    Okay I understand. I haven't tried it on the iOS yet, it might still work, but it's a problem because you can't make scrolling games with virtual width/height in this way.

    What is a really big problem with scrolling is the more than 32,768 pixel scrolling glitch here:

    It's stopping one of my games at the moment, and I think some other people might run into it eventually if they allow lots of scrolling. Can you please take a look at that?

    The other thread is a different problem . This smearing can't be fixed by resetting the position. It happens all the time.

    Have you tried by making your app the correct size for a iOS application? As non standart sizes are not supposed to work very well.

    Yes. I encountered this problem with a game that I'm in the progress of making where it's an "endless" runner. The example I made was just so you could see the isolated problem, but it happens in my actual game.

    I want to use virtual height so that the player can run "forever" (at least a very very far distance). I was using a system where the "backgrounds" were active objects, but there are performance problems with having ten 40x320 objects moving down the screen. This is why I am trying to add them to backdrops, but this solution isn't working either for the above reason.

    It's a problem because I can't see any other way to do this

    Im still suffering from this bug - only shows up when running on the actual device.
