    Reporting crashes

Note: If you can't build and run directly from MMF to your phone, this is unlikely to work

If an MMF application crashes on your device, it's possible to get what's called a stack trace, which we can use to find and fix the problem. This is especially helpful if the crash only happens on some devices.

To get a stack trace, launch the "ddms.bat" file from the "tools" directory of your Android SDK. This will give you the live debug output from your phone.

Now you can reproduce the crash on the device, and then save your log and upload it to the forums.

    Re: Reporting crashes

I'm just trying this out, there's an enormous load of data being put in that debug monitor, even before I run my app, what and how do I save from it?

Edit: Found the big E filter for errors and could save the log as well. Success!

Any way to get stack trace without when you can't build directly to the phone?

No, you'll need to install the correct drivers for development.

I'm trying to use ddms.bat and traceview.bat, but it says that I do not have Java installed, however it is installed, and I am able to export apk files as well as build and run directly to my phone. Any thoughts?

Dunno if this helps, but do you run ddms.bat AFTER you start the game on your phone?

    Hey there.

I did try that, but no luck. I'll attempt again at my next session.

    Hi everyone,

I ran ddms.bat, then built and ran my game directly on the device..at first (befoer the game finished building) a command prompt window had opened and started showing information, BUT that window closed... I let the game try to run and crash, then nothing was ther efor me to look at!

What is the next step? Was the window supposed to close? Do I use traceview.bat to see the finished trace? I tried that but NOTHING showed up.

    What am I missing?

    thanks

Run the game first, then start ddms.bat. This is the only way it works for me. Of course, if your game crashes instantly I see there might be a problem...
