    Destroy problem

Hi, I am having big troube when trying to destroy some objects.

I am working on a puzzle game, I want to verify the waves, theres another object that falls together with the block.

If all of these objects gets destroyed, another wave will fall.

Problem is, no matter what I do, all of the objects gets destroyed THE SAME TIME.

I tryed alterable values, not using groups, everything will just fail.

    Any help?

I'm sorry, PandaExplosion may be try to recheck your code. Is that problem facing the whole mmf? start a new application for tasting to see wether there is something wrong in your code or its the general problem of you system.

    Re: Destroy problem

It sounds like you're going behind MMF2's back and avoiding object selection. Your events do not have the correct conditions to destroy the correct objects, and when you haven't selected objects yet, MMF2 has all objects selected by default.

Could you upload an example MFA where you have this problem?

    Re: Destroy problem

Endless hours? It's as simple as:
-Spread values give each of the currently selected objects their own value, starting at the value you gave the action (ie spread value 2 goes 2, 3, 4, 5, etc)
-Object selection is handled by conditions from that object. You cannot select Object A by using Object B (except for the Select object, of course)
-Be careful about fastloops, the mess up object selection in ways you don't like. If you're using fastloops and your objects are being weird, try to put them in separate events (of course with the same conditions)

    Re: Destroy problem

Understanding Spread Values and Fixed Values can indeed be kind of confusing. I always struggle with the "create object" thing. And have trouble adding values to those 'new' objects specifically. Once, I made a game board where I wanted to be able to change the colors of objects (Square Tiles like on a chessboard) I wanted to be able to start the frame, and immediately create a slew of these squares, in addition, I tried to change the colors of the squares individually. I remember battling with it for days until I finally said 'To heck with it!' I tried fixed values, spread values, alterable values, global values. I even tried to use behaviors for the individual values. I tried cloning and copying. Man! It was really frustrating! I remember having to walk away from the application project thinking, "Gullyking, my man! You just aren't that friggin smart yet!"

At any rate, I found some tutorials on this site and others that can lend some insight into how they work. It helps sometimes to download projects people have made and study the layout the creators used. It's not gonna instantly flip a switch in your head or anything. But studying is the key. And I've learned much from this approach. I'm sure you can do the same.

And if by chance, you figure this out. Please post it under this topic. I'd like to bring up my old project and see if I can use some of your methods.

This is what makes game creating so fun!!!

    Re: Destroy problem

Thanks people I already solved the problem! this thread helped actualy.

What was happening, mmf was repositioning the objects that weren't destroyed to the places were the first one were destroyed.

I didnt solve this, but worked around another idea to solve the problem.

And I have been using mmf2 for yers, and can't understand spread values yet, I never use it.

    Re: Destroy problem

Gullyking, the Create Object action selects ONLY the object it just created. If you use several create object actions in a row and then try to modify the created objects, only the last created object will be modified.

    Re: Destroy problem

    Congratulations, PandaExplosion!

So, LB, I should have created object, colored object, gave values to that object and only then created another object of the same type? Hmmm. Learn something new everyday. Perhaps, I'll go back to the said project and fool around a little more. Thanks.
