The Games Factory 2 - Nintendo DS edition?

I just recently tried using the DS Game Maker, and let me tell ya, it is as hard as heck to use! I looked up the help file, tutorials, but still no luck. I think someone should make a version of TGF2 that would allow you to make games for your DS (besides, I have better knowledge with TGF than DS game Maker.) So why just have one that creates games for Newgrounds and not have one for your Nintendo DS? i think this sounds lke a good idea

But that's just my opinion

Re: The Games Factory 2 - Nintendo DS edition?

Though it would indeed be cool to have a DS exporter, I can think of a couple of reasons why Clickteam would not want to make one:

1: I think Clickteam would need permission from Nintendo to do that, and that would probably not be cheap, if they could get one at all. Not sure about this one, though.

2: Not that many people own a DS.

3: How would the game be distributed? Probably expensive, and so the price of the games would be expensive.

4: Clickteam are allready working on exporters for all modern smarthpones, including iPhone. Mobile phones are used by everyone. That is therefore a much better marked for klik-games.

5: Games for DS are usually alot more quality than games for smartphones. You would need a huge team of developers to match a normal DS game when it comes to graphics for instance.

6: Isn't 3DS the new thing? No way you could make such 3D games in MMF2.

To be honest, I don't think Clickteam would make a profit of creating a DS exporter.

Nintendo is extremely restrictive about letting people on to their systems - just recently, they flat-out said that they don't want 'garage' developers touching it.

So Nintendo themselves are the major 'why not'!

Yes...3DS is replacing the DS. Look at the age of the DS.

3DS won't replace DS. It's not worth the money. And Nintendo got problems by itself with Indies.

Re: The Games Factory 2 - Nintendo DS edition?

nintendo has started to suck over the past few years (Wii2U? Really???), so homebrew is really the only good stuff to be done on it anymore (other than maybe Mario Kart). It would be ironic if you make a DS Game Maker with TGFX though. (I'd be willing to help - I use libnds a lot)

Re: The Games Factory 2 - Nintendo DS edition?

You would need a developer license for the DS, which Nintendo expects you to have a very high level of quality, much, much higher than iOS or Android developed games for example.

You'd honestly be better off developing for a modern smartphone anyway, not only because it's probably a lot easier, but the user base would range from very young to very old.

I've never seen a DS user under the age of 30 who isn't part of the gaming media or anything. (no offense to anyone who is, because I guess my mom loves the 3DS :P)

Re: The Games Factory 2 - Nintendo DS edition?

The reason I asked this is because I want to make a 2D Minecraft clone for the Nintendo DS. I heard that Minecraft 3D wasn't possible, so I'm going to make a 2D version instead

It's already done, anyway. In 3D as well.
