FGL - Where are the sponsors?

    Hey guys,

Does anyone currently have a game in bidding at FGL?
I have had barely any sponsor views compared to my first (worse) games. I'd just like to see if any other MMF2-users are experiencing this problem and have any ideas on managing to still get a decent bid.
I mean had I known summer would be this slow on sponsor views, I wouldn't have submitted the game.

    Discuss?

Re: FGL - Where are the sponsors?

Check here. You can see that July was a poor month compared with June, with only 25 less games sold but with less than half the sum value of accepted bids. Summer seems to be slow, despite the number of sales remaining constant.

I played your game till I managed to win a game yesterday. It's nice, and rather slick. But here's the thing, it's a card game, and those are not in as much demand as platformers or shooter games. You can see this by using that sales page and filtering by genre. Platformers and shooters are consistent, but Casino games (which I suppose your card game would fit into) are not so.

I'm in a similar position, uploading an RPG for sponsorship next week. RPGs are one of the rarest games on FGL, and they can either hit or miss. Maybe I should wait a month and see if things at FGL pick up? I'm not sure yet.

Perhaps this is the start of a downturn in Flash Development!

Re: FGL - Where are the sponsors?

Talking about the same topic with Jacob the other day I did an assessment of the last 12 months, writing up how the months compare in uploaded games, sells and total sale price. I don't think FGL allows reprinting its information outside of its system so I'll only say that basically the autumn and spring months are the strongest and holiday periods (summer & winter) are weakest both in terms of games licensed and the money paid for them.

BUT. Sponsors may also take a month or more to notice a game, or bid on it, and there are a bazillion other factors (like how many games they have bought that month, how big their budget is, etc.), so do keep that in mind when uploading a game. So DizzyDoo I suggest based on the data (although this isn't fancy science) that you put the game up for bidding in the second half of August the earliest, but early September might be the best bet.
Also, FGL has a new experimental search feature for sponsors called Epic RPGs. You might want to look into how that works and how it may be beneficial for you.

RickyRombo, there is no downturn. If you look at how much sponsors have spent on games in July, that's a low, but June was the best month of all time on FGL in terms of sale numbers and sale price.

Re: FGL - Where are the sponsors?

DizzyDoo, I think you're right. I looked at the sales trends for Casino games, and there's never more than 4 sold per month! Generally 1 or 2, it looks like, if any at a month.

That being said, if you look at Casino games, there is no massive inflow of games, so it somewhat makes sense. I mean you can't sell more games that you have! However, the number of sold casino games is significantly less, it appears. This may have to do with the low quality of some of them. I'm not sure.

Well guys, never use my Deck of Cards extension! Your game will slowly die

EDIT: Also the sales charts show only the sales. Those are essentially the good Casino games that made it out. My problem is even getting the views from sponsors. I don't understand why they would just not look at it. Also, my game is marked under Strategy and Other as well. I can still hope that in a few weeks someone will miraculously bid!

EDIT #2: Take a look at the Casino game page: http://www.flashgamelicense.com/browse_games_by_req.php?req=genre&genre=Casino&dev view=1 I'm still at the top (behind 1) and you can see by the dates how few games there are. The numbers seem somewhat promising then, as if only 1 or 2 Casino games sell per month, I'm about the only choice :P

Re: FGL - Where are the sponsors?

One interesting thing regarding FGL visibility and page views is to check the game's "icon hotness" rating which is calculated from "icon vs icon" comparisons made by the FGL users. It's not exact science, but I've actually noticed some correlation between the rating and view count. Especially if you have a rating of under 40%, I would consider making a new better icon altogether, it might help in getting a few extra views.

Re: FGL - Where are the sponsors?

My icon hasn't even had the 10 votes, so I can't see its rating.

Some developers on FGL thought it might be the name, since Golf is so generic, but I don't think that's the problem. Another person suggested it was too bland and not eyecatching. If anyone has suggestions, I'm open to them, I really don't know what to do to it. But thanks everyone

    EDIT:

This is a test I just did, can someone tell me if the green background helps it out? I'm thinking it's a good idea since it compliments the red heart and makes the white "Golf" pop out. I put this new one on FGL.

Re: FGL - Where are the sponsors?

Maybe it's indeed the summer period that's not so good for uploading a game. I had a few sponsor views, but nothing compared to my previous games I put up there. I'll wait for a few weeks and if nothing really happens, I'll put up it for quick auction.

RickyRombo. You should not cut yourself down. I have seen some of your works and they don't suck. If they really sucked people would be throwing up all over your feet.
