    communication to a minecraft server

I know this sounds like a silly question, but is there a way how I can get a mmf2 application to communicate with a minecraft server?

    thanks,
    nick

MooSock and a guide or manual on the Minecraft Server protocol.

I know several people are working on mine-craft related MMF2 projects ( myself included ) and I at-least would love-to-hear about what it is your doing

I'm not trying to do anything fancy, I'm just trying to set up a background application that would check to see if the server is running, and then make a backup of the map file elsewhere in the computer.

Re: communication to a minecraft server

If you have Dev, you can use Process Viewer and check if the server process is running (however this may be impossible if it is running from a jar). Otherwise, you can just use MooSock to connect to the server and if the connection doesn't fail, disconnect and do the backup.

[size:8pt]Note: Minecraft and the Server save parts of the world in real time, any time, and actually write to the files constantly. You should use a dedicated backup plugin/mod instead so that it disables saving with save-off, does the backup, then enables saving with save-on.[/size]

You would literally just connect to the server IP and Port, and you'd know if it was running if it could connect.
