Reading from Zip files without extacting?

Not sure if this is possible with the archive object...
I'd like to be able to read a file (e.g jpg or xml file)from a zip file without actually having to extract the particular files to a folder..
    is this at all possible?

To view a compressed file, it must be decompressed first, so you'd have to extract it, even just to a temporary directory.

Although did you mean extract only a single file out of an archive containing several files?

Win7 allows you to look at them. You can even copy and paste files from them.

Re: Reading from Zip files without extacting?

I was hoping I wouldn't have to use temporary folders and that the archive object would allow me to read a single file without extracting - I may just have to use the "quick extract" method via a temporary folder..
    Thanks.

My understanding is that you can see the files, but not view their contents until extracted.
When you copy and paste out of a zip file, it extracts that file to the destination directory.
When you run/open a file from within the zip, windows automatically extracts it to the user's temp directory, and opens it from there.
