    Flashlight effect in Flash

I know that you can achieve flashlight effects in regular MMF2 with ink effects such as Add and Subtract, but is there a way to do a decent flashlight effect in flash using only the clickteam extensions? (I'm entering the game in a compo that has to be built from the Newgrounds Games Factory program; so no third party extensions...)

I know you could just have a huge black active with a transparent hole, but that would be very inefficient and cause slowdown.

I'd suggest using a full screen alpha blended backdrop as the top layer, and have your game run on the bottom layer. Though, there would be some limitations to this, but it should run at a better frame rate than using an active.

    Re: Flashlight effect in Flash

since my game is topdown I kind of want the flashlight to be rotated with the player, so a backdrop wouldn't work Not sure if it's possible...

Why not use the surface object?

    Re: Flashlight effect in Flash

My bad, didn't read completely. Without third party extensions I don't think it's possible :/ without a slow down.

EDIT: Clickteam please change the : / smiley. It's not a smirk. I'm not trying to be nastily clever. It is obviously a smiley of "I'm not sure."

I'm using TGF2.0 and was able to get a fairly nice flashlight effect EXCEPT when I export as FLASH when all the transparency/add/subtract effects vanish
