Ok,.this is how I'm doing it. I have a 4 frame game. I want to record frame 2 and beat frame 2 for the demo. So,.I go to frame 2, select where the recording will record to. That being the file that records will be placed on my desktop and I named it Dem1. I'm in frame 2 now and hit record,.....play the game and beat it and then after I beat it I X out of that frame. Then I go to the event editor (start of frame global counter = 1) "play demo file" from the drop down menu under the storyboard controls icon and select Dem1 file from my desktop. Ok,.that's done. Using a global counter in frame one I have a button that say's Watch demo and if clicked it sets the global counter to 1 and then jumps to frame 2. If global counter = 1 play demo. If global counter = 0 play the game as you normally would.

This is the weird part,.it plays the demo file,.but it's from yesterday and not the one I just recorded. The file that was recorded yesterday,.is not on my PC and had a totally different name. It was called GIDem. Now that is nuts!!

This is a great feature in MMF that I would like to use,.but I can't..

I dont know if you know this, but if you dont i understand why you may have problems and be a bit confused about how this feature works
    ...
When you record a demo using MMF2 feature ( called 'record demo' ), it doesnt record a video type demo of what happens on the screen
What recoring a demo does is it records your ( the players ) key presses and when you pressed those keys, so when you play the demo file you have recorded it simulates the keypresses you presses ( and at what times you pressed them ) to recreate your ( the players ) actions

I know what it does. It's just not doing it in this particular game of mine.

I must say that now that I got a working example of demo recording, soooo many more things can be accomplished within MMF2. The Demo recording thing is awesome. Are there anything wrong with it? I don't see it used ever.

In all honesty,.what it should do is record whatever is going on, on the screen. It records your key/mouse presses. BUT if you have a lot of things going on,..if I'm seeing this right,.the recording changes because of random events that happen during the game. So,.IMO,.the best way to do a Demo is use Camtasia studio or a program like that,.. that records the screen,.but the down fall is the application would be a large file. We have a Wii and the idea came from playing Donkey Kong Country Returns. Every level has an option that if you want to see how that level is beat,.it plays the level for you and beats it. I would imagine that they are videos that are on the Donkey Kong Country Returns DVD.

Maybe a good idea that the click team includes an option like this in the new release of MMF-3. That would amazing!!

Just want to say thanks for all the help on this and suggestions from everyone.

Well,.after messing with this for days and not coming up with any solution,..LOL. I just recorded myself playing the game using Camtasia Studio and it worked perfect. I saved the video in Quick Time format, added an extra frame to the game that I used the Quick Time object in and at the start of the frame "play video" I put a Button on the main menu that says "Watch Demo" User clicks the button and it takes you to the demo. When the demo video is over I have it setup to return the the main menu. Done! Like I said,.the only downfall is the game is now about 40megs instead of being about 4megs. Still 40 megs is nothing compared in today's standard in games! What is really good about doing it this way,.is that you can edit the video and add in some things like text, transitions, music and so on. It worked out great.

I want to make a demo but I can't find the record button.

I select the frame I want to record and play it and this bar appears with the option to pause, stop or go back but no record. ???

Ok here's 5 easy steps to record a demo.

    1. Clone a frame that you want to record the demo to,
    2. select the cloned frame
    3. on the Properties list click on the demo file option and click on the "..." Button
    4. Save the file on any folder you would like to save in. (this is impotent step on making a demo and if record the demo without doing this step, it may give you an error!)
    5. press record and the gameplay of the frame pops up, Do anything you like!, when your done, close the frame, if you do an event to go next, back, or jump a frame it automatically closes. keep that in mind.
You're done! If you want to see the demo your recorded, run your new demo recorded frame

Okay, so I know that that demo recording is for the developer only side of the games (to show how to play the game, etc.). But can something be made/done similar for the players (who don't own the mfa, but to record something like a stage running time attack) to record their own demo? Or does it require a hell lot of code to make a recording option for the player side?

Yes,.you can use any software that records the screen! I use Camtasia Studio. Instead of using the one in MMF that just records key presses and mouse movement this records the game play exactly how you play it. My issue using MMF to do it is that my game uses a lot of random events and if I played and recorded the game using MMF,.it was a mess after I recorded it due to the random events and my key preses didn't match what was going on when I played the demo back. So, I used Camtasia Studio to record my demo and I imported the video into MMF. Worked like a charm! Hope this helps.
