    Release mode?

I have an app that is ready for release on the Market as a Beta, are we allowed to do so before the Android Export Module is out of Beta? It would be very helpful to let users publicly download my app from my market account, rate/comment on it, report bugs, etc.

Also, when checking "Release Mode" in the Android Options, what are Keystore and Key name/passwords? Do I have to acquire a key name/password from Google? Is it required?

You are allowed to release an application, however it will have the beta nag screen, not sure if you want that...

Release mode : look at the documentation of the Keystore and Key properties. You can generate yourself a keystore with the keytool program of the JDK. Open a command line window, go to the directory of the JDK on your machine and enter something like :

keytool -genkey -v -keystore d:\my-release-key.keystore -alias my_key_name -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 10000

Replace d:\my-release-key.keystore by the pathname of the keystore you want to create, and my_key_name by the name of the key that will be created in the keystore. Keytool will ask you for various information, including the password for the keystore and the key. Use this keystore and key to sign your applications.

In my case is just to know where it is generated, and the Apple profiles are insane. But never I'll post something in beta!

    Thanks Yves.

Attempting to publish a Beta version of my app, and this list of permissions came up:

    android.permission.INTERNET,
    android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE,
    android.permission.CAMERA,
    android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS,
    android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION,
    android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION,
    android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE,
    android.permission.INTERNET,
    android.permission.VIBRATE,
    android.permission.WAKE_LOCK

Google thinks for some reason that those permissions are activated. The only ones I am actually using are: INTERNET, VIBRATE, and WAKE_LOCK.

    Weird...

edit: Ack... now I tried downloading my app from the market, and it says it was not signed correctly >_<

Oops, it seems some debugging lines in the manifest file were not removed. We'll release beta 21 asap.

I think it'll be a while before any of us can put anything out without the beta warning screen, and the exporter isn't anywhere near stable enough yet, so I wouldn't recommend putting stuff out publicly.
