Struggling to make a Racing Game!

    Hello Everyone,

First off, this is my first time making a game. I have absolutely not experience with game-creation. The game I'm trying to make is a simple racing game, with three levels. In those 3 levels, there will be cars, power-ups, and slick spots the player either avoids or hits. The issue i'm having is making the three race-tracks using MMF2. I have no clue how to make a background that a player actively drives in...I don't know if I'm limited to an over-head shot of a racing track the player races on or if i can make a first-person type of racing game. Like the ones where you can see your car, the character and move left and right on the screen while driving in a forward view.

I have no idea on how to create an active background like that. I'm also having trouble trying to create objects in MMF2. Where do I go to create an object? What do I do to make a background that the player can actively play with? I really need some help, and any guides you could link me to would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Check out Marv's site, it has tons of great examples.

To create an active object (or any object for that matter), right click in the frame and go to Insert Object. You can then select an object from the list of different objects and extensions you've downloaded. Active and backdrops objects are the object you'll use most often.

Sounds like you'd benefit from using the mode7 extension. There's also a perspective shader, but I don't know how well that would actually work.

Otherwise, it could be done as animations. If a car is further away, use a smaller car graphic, gets closer, use a larger graphic. You could even use the scale function to do this instead of individual animations. If you're just starting out for the first time though, it's going to be complicated. But you can use animations to give the illusion of depth. That's how pre-SNES mode7 era games worked.
