    Select Object

    Hi.

The latest version of the select object doesn't work in HWA build 3, as it causes a crash. Any chance we might see an updated version?

Yes at some point I am sure we will.

The information for extension creators to convert their extensions has not been released yet. I am sure once Yves is confident they won't have to redo their work for each new beta he will release the info.

I don't see why a conversion is necessary. The object does not render anything on-screen, it only accesses some objects' data.

    Re: Select Object

But the object info struct has changed size, which means it can't get at any object data except the first object in the application.

Pity there isn't a handy variable somewhere which contains the size of that struct (unless I've missed it).

Hmm, I thought about something like that, but all the other objects work, don't they?

    Re: Select Object

There are two lists inside MMF, the "object list" which is a list of fixed size entries containing pointers to the (variable size) object data. This list is all you need to look at for modifying data about an individual object instance, such as alterable values, position, angle, etc. Most objects that deal with other objects only deal with this list, and it hasn't changed with HWA.

Then there is the "object info list", which contains information about a type of object, such as its name, qualifier membership, and the start of the selected object list. It was this "info" list which changed, presumably to add a "shader" entry.

    Re: Select Object

Then why not add a edittime checkbox named "Enable HWA Compatiable mode", and then use the new info when that box is checked?

    Re: Select Object

The problem is that the code in the select object is not even considering the possibility of this thing being a different size, so I've got quite a bit of rewriting and testing to do. I can detect HWA automatically though, so I won't need a checkbox

    Re: Select Object

Intermediate and quick solution : you can build a version specific to HWA (i.e. with the new size) and install it to the Extensions\Hwa and Data\Runtime\Hwa folders, MMF2 HWA looks for extensions from these folders first and will ignore the same extensions in the parent folder.

    Re: Select Object

Much easier, just need to add four bytes to the objectinfo struct and recompile for THAT. Ty.
