    Join the dots?

    Hello everybody,

I am trying to create a continuous line from different instances of the same active object.

If anybody knows a method, I would love to here from you.

    Cheers

Thanks LB, I've tweaked it a bit and it's doing the job well!

I am using it to create skid marks in a top view driving game. Only thing is after about 150 "dots", the game starts lagging.

There aint a way to paste angled/scaled actives into the backdrop is there?

I believe there is some sort of limitation - when you tried, they probably pasted in their original scale and angle right?

Even so, I don't really see how it would help - if you're not constantly adjusting them to cause the lag, then having them in the background will only help slightly.

Saved me again LB. The lag was because MMF was recalculating the scale and angle for every object every frame. Even though the result was the same.

Now I am trying to only calculate the scale and angle once for each object, on creation, from the second last created object. But I just can't get it to work. Fancy having a crack at it for me LB?

Just keep a counter/variable somewhere and if it doesn't match the number of actives update them and make it match.

It is easy to work out which objects haven't been scaled and rotated, but it is hard (without running a loop) to match up sequencing objects. As you know, every object needs to have it's angle and scale calculated based upon the position of the object created before it. If there are 1000 objects, even if only 5 of them have not been scaled angled rotated, it still is running the loop 1000 times. Though, not processing the calculation 1000 times.

On a more general note, if you run 1000 loops, 995 of which do nothing, is there any noticeable difference to just running 5 loops? I've run a few tests and it seems not, but things might change when you having hundreds of other objects and loops happening at once.

    I've uploaded my mfa:

Press "space" to create a skid mark object and it works fine.
Hold "control" to continuously create skid mark objects and it does not.

In this mfa, I have fixed the problem (objects not connecting), but come across another.

Now, there is an unexplainable trail:

However, my frame is 60,000 pixels in height. The player starts at the bottom. If you drive to the top (or press "1" to teleport there) then the trailing problem disappears. I feel this could be MMF having issues with such large numbers.

As before, press "space" to create a single skid object and hold "control" to continuously create them.

    Solved!

If anybody is curious, it was caused by the hotspot for some reason. Moving it anywhere off 0,0 fixed the problem. Thanks for your help LB.
