I think its safe to say that software piracy isn't going away. I'd like to think that there is some way to prevent it, or stop it, but I know better. I've been around a long time (in the world of software) and this topic (preventing piracy) has been here all along. I've seen copy protection schemes, keys, utilities, registration methods come and go. I've watched this thread grow... For every great anti-piracy idea, there's a great hack to get around it. I hate to admit it, but I yield to the knowledge that this is a game without end. As Joshua said: "The only winning move is not to play". I can only hope that I manage to create a game that is worthy of the pirate's "good" eye!

But just because someone has Cydia installed, doesn't mean they are a pirate. It basically just unlocks their device to do what they want with it. Installous would be the app you'd want it to search for.

Absolutely. There is nothing wrong with jail-breaking an iPhone or an iPad and most people do it for the extra functionality it provides. I have a jail-broken iPad specifically to use XBMC. You must also remember that if someone buys your app on the AppStore and a message appears stating that their device is being used for piracy and they can't use the app, then they're going to get a refund quickly and you've just lost a legitimate sale. While I'm against piracy, jail-breaking isn't illegal and those that jail-break aren't automatically pirates.

Not to mention the negative feedback would probably do more damage than any supposed losses to piracy.
