Alterable Values in Strings & best way to display

When reading the help file on the String object, it states that there are alterable variables, but I do not see them when looking in properties. Did I misread something here?

Also, if i wanted a string to appear on an "index card" that could be dragged around the screen, what would be the best way to do this? I'm thinking of scanning a card and assigning that graphic to an active, and having the string display in front of it always, but I'm thinking there might be an easier way.

Any insights on either of these would be greatly appreciated.

Some objects do not have alterable values (even though I believe all objects should), and the String object is on of them. It has no alterable values and no alterable strings. All it has are multiple paragraphs.

MMF2 can pair objects for you, the task you want to do is easier than you think:

Thanks LB, good to know i'm not going crazy looking for the alterable values on the string object. I've got tomorrow off and plan on experimenting on some concepts in MMF.

You can use the Active System Box instead of a string object to display strings . This will give you alot more options for the "string" object, including alterable values.

Popcorn, I gave the Active System Box a good stare down in the object list, but didn't pull the trigger on that. Sounds like I have some options to explore here.

OK, things were working great, until I started messing around. I removed all but one active object and added a button to create more if needed. It seems when i click the button, it is doing an exponential add of the number of actives on the screen, rather than just inserting one new item, and spreading the values. Obviously I'm missing something, can anyone shed light on this?

Event 1: This should be Always, not Start of Frame.
Event 5: When you create an object (Object B) relative to another object (Object A), it creates one object (Object B) for each and every existing relative object (Object A), not just one relative to the most recent.

    Try this:

Thanks LB, and sorry for the cross-post. This was a different issue and wasn't sure if i should start a new thread or not, but wont make that mistake again.
