Advice regarding Sound and Music neede

    Hi
    I currently have a relatively simple Application ( below 3MB ).

From adding basic sound and music to the App i can see that the file size increases drastically.

Does anyone have some basic advice for me regarding adding sound and music to my App?
Are there any specific file types i shoud be using?
Sound compression? ( i dont even know what this is )

I do know that Ogg Vorbis files are the way to go. They have just about the same quality of Mp3's but take up a lot less space. Wav files are the best quality but take a huge amount of space. Here an example. I took Brad Paisley's "Camouflage" Mp3 and it's original file size was 6.09MB and it's bit rate was 192kbps. I loaded it up in Audacity and converted it to Ogg. It went from 6.09mbs down to 3.99Mbs and still sounded the same. IMO, Ogg is the best way to go if you're trying to save some space.

Is there anyone else that has any input on this?

Convert all your audio files to mono, for sound effects I convert to mp3 variable bitrate, mid-high quality, for music I use 22050 hz wav file.

MMF settings should be 44100 and 32 kbs. That's small file good audio quiality.

Yes, MMF2 converts all audio to mp3 when exporting SWF. However, the original sound format matters! I made some tests and I would get different results if the original file was a wav file or if it was already an mp3 encoded sound file, all other parameters being the same. Maybe the included mp3 encoder isn't the best around or isn't configured well, that's why I advise using mp3 files encoded externally and not let the job to the included enconder. (I use Audacity, free audio editor)
