Ideas:
Can you also have the left joystick control the player?
I find the joysticks more comfortable then the game pad
When you smash an enemy -- could you put in some sort of "flash" or effect. It would make stomping them more fun.
Overall it seems pretty solid but I wonder if it needs a little bit more added on the game play .. Not sure what but something to make it more sticky.
Perhaps some sort of temporary power ups for collecting so many coins
