    Clickteam's MMF2 HTML5 Exporter - Wii U Potential

I haven't confirmed this myself with the device yet, but it looks like from my sources that the Wii U browser will support most or all of the HTML5 features, and suppose to be based on the webkit base.

I think it would be a great opportunity for us to make companion apps for games released on the Wii U, plus apps for the TVii features too. The web browser can be accessed and used anytime on the tablet controller itself, while playing a game or watching a show or movie.

The controller screen resolution is 854x480. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_U_GamePad

With some of the tests I have done with the community mfa examples into html5 demos on desktop and android, I think our creations on Wii U will be another selling point. Now if we can get our hands on one to test out, and see if the browser has hardware browser support.

I also wanted to bring up that there are some app stores that sell HTML5 apps for Android, desktop, and iOS devices. So that is another avenue we check out.

Very big thanks to Clickteam all of these years, and to the awesome Community who is always super helpful and nice. We all help each other make our dreams come true and knowledge grow!

It would be great if they open up parts of their system to indie developers.

There are some hoops to jump through to get your games onto Nintendo's platforms.

It would be neat if we could make DSI/3DS/WiiU eShop games

Hmmm.... if the WiiU browser is compatible with the HTML5 standard, or what will become the standard, won't that mean that as long as the MMF extension conforms to the standard it will work on the WiiU. I mean, if you are building a web page with Dream Weaver you don't need special permission from the big N so that it will work properly. If that were the case it would almost completely defeat the purpose of having a web browser.

Or are they going to somehow block some features of HTML5 without the user being able to choose to re-initiate them?

No, I meant if we wanted to natively release games in their app store, or on physical media, there is a bunch of cost and things to deal with.

I agree, if their browser can handle certain standards for HTML5 and has a fast engine, I think we will be able to release our apps on our own hosts with no problems, like some developers did with their Flash creations for the Wii Opera browser with Wiimote support.

Hey Clickteam, you might be able to use this to add features to the HTML5 exporter for Wii U, so all of us could develop for that screen and controls. Not sure how much the source might help.

This is very relevant to me as Nintendo have approved my game to be ported to the system, and the HTML5 exporter can be the difference between whether I can port it myself or have to hire a programmer. The Wii U's browser runs my game at about 1FPS, lol, but the Web Framework is said to be designed for games and thus much faster.

I can develop extensions for any of the Wii U's features, but I can't speed it up if the web framework runs slowly. I'm hoping it doesn't since it's designed for games. unfortunately I can't find out without paying Nintendo for a dev kit (or loaning one through ScrewAttack) and they need me to move to a house where I have a dedicated development room before they'll approve me as a developer. I am talking with people at Nintendo though to see if perhaps I can get some tests run or get more detailed specs about the framework.
