    play audio sample backwards

have I missed an easy way to play a sample backwards?

    sound does not seem to
direct show does not seem to
onu and miniature audiere do not

I may just create a backwards file to access when i need the backwards sound, but actively reversing "on the fly" would be superior

can I really be the first to want to do this? Cool...

    open to any ideas...

You would need an audio program like Audacity (free) to do this. You load the sound file in Audacity and under "effects" select reverse. After that just export as an .ogg file. Then insert it in MMF as usual.
You can download Audacity here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I'm sure there is an extension to do this, but this is the easiest way without using one.

For compatibility reasons, it's good to avoid implementing this. Because a lot of formats can't easily play in reverse by nature (mp3, vorbis) due to the way they're encoded (unless you uncompress them and reverse in memory), and a lot of platforms doesn't support it, it's just better to not implement it and let the user deal with it.
