difficulty looping a sample

hi guys-

having difficulty looping a specific sample i made.

basically the problem is, is that the sample has about 3-4 seconds that i don't want to loop at the start, and i can't figure out how to make it smoothly transition into a loop.

what i have done is edit the first 3-4 seconds into it's own sound file, play that once, then play the second sample, and loop that, but the problem is, is that there is a huge gap of time between the two samples.

is this the best method for doing this or is there some other way? maybe i should use multiple channels for this case?

i'd like to follow this up with if anyone has any good sample based control examples, i'd love to see them. ive been scavenging for discussions, but sometimes seeing an example of how people structure background sounds, with sound fx, and juggling the whole mess, would make it easier to see rather than be told.
