Hey lots of requests for something like this I think, so here's my attempt (modified from another multi-touch example somewhere on this forum) I have only included Left / Right + 2 fire buttons, but it is dead easy to include 4 way d-pad with this example, just a bit of copy+paste. Works perfectly.

I haven't commented on the example as it's a experiment I'm working on.
Weirdly, if i try and run this on my ipad via xcode it fails.
I made my own version of this, and when exporting in mmf2 it said a few extensions where not compatable so left them out (im not sure why, since i was only using platform object & multitouch object). I'm not sure if thats the reason, but my game didnt play with multitouch.. so you couldn't press more than one button at the same time.

Redsquirrel - Did you enable Multi touch in your frames properties under iOS options > Touch Mode? This is required for multi-touch object to work.
Yeah I did. Not quite sure why it didn't work, its practically the same as to what you have done. I may post my mfa up soon to see what ive done wrong if thats ok?
