Animation confusion question

The MMF2 help says that animation numbers start at 0 with the "Stopped" animation, up to 12 and over for user animations.
But in the expression editor, when specifying and animation number, there's a message saying that numbers should be between 1 and 16.

So at what number do animation index really start?

Is there a limit to the number of different animations that an active object can have, including default animations and user animation?

I believe they're indexed from 0 despite what the expression editor says (as frame numbers begin from 0 as far as the expression editor is concerned too), but finding out is just an experiment away.

I checked the limit of animations a while ago... I think I got up to at least 32 and didn't hit a limit.

AFAIK the "between 1 and 16" message is incorrect.
