How to best do audio for Flash Games?

    Hi
How to i best do audio for a Flash Games?

    ...
I started out with a series of WAV files for the audio, and then they were made to OGG files.
But now the OGG files are bigger ( file size ) than the original WAV files...?
I was under the impression that OGG wold be better becuse it shoul be smaller in size.

    Am i doing anything wrong?
Are there other things i need to considder when creating audio files for Flash Games?

Try having all .wav audio files, and let the Flash exporter put them into mp3s within the swf.

Also try just mp3s and compare the sizes of your builds.

For swf, if you do not need the audio in stereo, at a higher bit rate (like, 128, 256, 320 kbit/s), or frequency range (like 22.05kHz instead of 44.1kHz), then go with lower. Please note that the SWF exporter does not like some lower frequency and bit rates. Experiment and have separate audio builds until you get the sound quality and file size you are comfortable with.

So does it matter at all what audio format ( WAV, OGG etc ) i feed MMF2?
I mean if it converts everything to mp3, what difference does it make?

It is better to have the file orginally in mp3 : you can have various sampling rates for each sound.

    Call me stupid

    - Does "Better" mean there are only downsides to feeding other formats than MP3s?
    - Would it be just the same to have a WAV file and convert it to MP3, as to have an MP3 to start with?

    - What are sampling rates?
    - How do i change sampling rates ?
    - How do different sampling rates affect final Performance and Size of my Application?

    Thanks

King_Cool, by lower the sample rate it makes the file sizes smaller, but also decreases the guilty of the sound. Usually you can't tell unless you're playing an entire song. With short sounds you would never know.

Francois, Would having the original sound in mp3 form make a flash app more efficient? The reason I'm asking is, if Flash has to convert .wav and ,ogg files to Mp3 it would in fact take longer to load the sound? So we are all better off using Mp3s and reducing the bit rate, but won't that make the project bigger? Also, how does flash convert the sounds to mp3? Does it automatically do it when the sound is triggered each time or does it do it at the start of the frame or when loading one time? Also, have you tested bit rates in flash. Does it like one over another? I can covert all the way down to 8kbps.

If you reduce the bit rate and do it right, you won't hear a difference in sound quality with short burst sounds.

The sounds are converted when you build the project : it does not take any time when running the application.
You can choose the sampling frequency and Bitrate of the converted sound in the properties of the application "MP3 Compression"
