Control X and Tab key ...

    Hi,
I always used to be able to set Tab as a player key by getting Control X to set a certain player key to the last key pressed.
This still works for the most part but suddenly, I've found that I can't get the Tab key to be set.
Infact, as soon as I try to set Tab as a player key, Control X stops working.
It may seem like a minor thing, I know, but Tab is the default key to change ship in my game and has been since 2004.

I tried uninstalling the extension and putting it back in. I wondered, is this a Windows 7 thing that I haven't noticed?
Can anyone shed any light on it?

    Many thanks.

EDIT: Just tested under XP - Same thing happens - weird.

EDIT2: Fixed it, kind of. I used the Keyboard object to feed the "last key pressed" value into Control X's 'set player key' action. The Keyboard object seems not to have any actions of its own? Can that be right?
It's not that neat a solution because ... you now need two extensions; Control X and Keyboard, whereas before, you only needed Control X.
Wondered if I was missing anything?

No, not in that frame - only actives and strings and whatnot. - Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate your help, LB.
Does setting a player key as "Tab" work at your end OK? - I can make you a quick example if you'd like to show my problem.

It always used to work ... I might install an old MMF2 build on my old XP steamer and see if it's due to a recent change in MMF. The extension seems not to have changed at all
I was planning on making a customisable control system that allowed you to map keys and controller buttons but this complicates matters a fair bit, I can foresee, having to feed this into the mix.

It works fine here in build 254. Try this example; when I press tab it both says "Tab" and "Pressed". Does it work for you?

Thank you very much, LB! You saved me a major job with that. I just didn't have time last night to make even an example and all our machines at work are Macs.

I found out that the DirectShow object causes the problem. As soon as you pull that from the frame - everything works.
Your example pointed me in the right direction and saved me a heap of time - thank you very much!

Hmm, is there a good alternative to DirectShow that can open music files outside the application?
