Creating floating damage text with the Text Blitting Object - How?

I've downloaded examples and copied them straight into my own frames and no matter what they stop working. I absolutely CANNOT figure out this text blitting thing. I just want a number to appear, scroll up, and go away.

Could anyone make me an example?
