    Question Layer Scrolling Performance

    Is it still true that the collision mask for layer 1 will be analyzed before the start of the frame instead of other layers?

    so will it be better for performance, to use the background active box instead of layer 1 with background for parallax scrolling?

    Layer 1 background collisions are handled in a buffer, the size of the frame. This buffer is generated at start of frame. It is not re-generated in case of scrolling.
    Collisions on other layers are done on a per-object basis.
    So yes, the initial drawing of the frame will be a little slower, but I doubt the effect can be seen.

    I'm just on optimizing my platformer with parallax scrolling, so I'm looking for everything i can do to make it run smoother

    I've been building a game with quite a few layers, the gameplay is on layer 6-7 or so generally, I haven't really noticed any issues with performance.

    Ok, I've run a test now. (on windows) I've set my game to machine independent speed, fps = 900

    if the main layer of the game is set to layer 1 --> max fps: 900
    if the main layer of the game is set to layer 2 --> max fps: 400-700


    (pls take care, i just set the fps so high to get some difference on my faster pc )
