New to iOS - Where do I start?

    Hello all.

I recently bought the iOS exporter and wanted get my feet wet when it comes to creating games and apps. I've been using MMF2 for about a year and a half and have created simple PC games before. I am brand new to the world of iOS creation and was wondering if there's any documentation, book materials, or training videos covering the subject for beginners. Anything that can teach me the ways from the ground-up. Clickteam sells a book titled "iPhone Game Development for Teen," would anyone recommend that?

    Thanks for the help!

That book will probably help, though I haven't read it myself, so I wouldn't know.. "For teens" just means that it is for MMF2

I found out everything I needed on the forums. There's some sticky threads here in the iOS section that is pretty helpful for knowing what to do with the "get the game running on the iPhone" process. So I would suggest you start there

I don't think you will find any other sources that itself fully covers everything you need to know.

Anyway, the most basic info you need to know:
    - You need a mac running XCode. Lion or later is recommeded, but I think people have got it running on Snow Leopard as well.
    - To test apps on your device, you need an Apple Account. That'll cost you a fee every year. You will also need to register your device.
    - You should make your game in a resolution that is optimal for i-devices. 960 * 640 is pretty standard for iPhone.
    - Set Framerate to 30 or 60 as that is what iOS is optimized for.

So I figured I'd download some example files to get a feel of how the iOS exporter works, and I already got an error message. lol

I downloaded the smooth slider menu located in this thread, (http://community.clickteam.com/showthread.php?t=78673) exported it as a Xcode project, opened it up, hit build and run and got 8 of the same error:

"error: statically allocated instance of Objective-C class 'BoidType"

Sooooo......what does that mean? lol. If it helps, I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.8 and Xcode 3.2.6

Also, you need to bear in mind that the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5th generation both use a 1136 by 640 resolution screen.

Another good way to decide whether to purchase the book could be to read the reviews on a site that carries the book. I noticed that Amazon USA has a few reviews on the book. Reading those reviews may help you to decide.

If you do purchase the book, please let us know what you think.

    TIA

Yeah I know. Until I become a paid developer, I can only download Xcode 3.2.6 for Snow Leopard.
