Why is colour different on device vs pc?

Question in the title.. Clour on ipad is alsways less vivid/darker than on pc.

This is more than the result of monitor calibation. I have tried switching from sRGB to Apple RGB colourspace in photoshop when making sprites/backgrounds but Ipad still can't get the right colours.

    Any thoughts?

I wouldn't use any monitor calibration, stick to raw RGB values if you can - it will only result in using different RGB values than you think you're using.
I tend to do my graphics on a PC laptop with no monitor calibration (had similar problems on Macbook after calibrating screen!)

Also have you changed your iPad to use full brightness in settings (not auto brightness)
It might be that your monitor has a higher brightness setting - especially if it doesn't run off batteries, like a laptop or tablet

Nothing to do with the brightness, I have a background that's RGB(32,64,128). The colour looks blueish on pc but purplish on ipad. To match it I had to turn red up by a whole lot on my Dell 24", which is set to R-50, G-50, B-50. Effect isn't noticeable on primary and secondary colours, but it seems that red is up by a whole lot on the ipad compared to my monitor. Is anyone else getting this?

that has a lot to do with gamma and color profile,
you can read more about it here: http://bjango.com/articles/photoshop/

maybe this will help you: http://ux.saggezza.com/articles/the-...evice-testing/

and i have found an interesting posting, that you can use as rough guide:

    ...Steps I followed:

    - Take a screenshot of image in storyboard
    - Take a screenshot of image in device (use mail / photo stream back to your mac)
    - Use color picker (part of mac OS color palette) to pick the same spot on both the screenshots
    - Note down the RGB values (available on the mac OS color palette) of spots chosen in step 3
    - compare both the RGB values and see the difference
    - add the RGB offset to match the color.

My RGB offset (not be followed blindly)

based on my experience, i added the following RGB values to get the color I wanted, it is only rough and worked for me:

    Red +12
    Green +19
    Blue +16

I cannot see any difference in the colors between the app on my PC and on my Device. Are you using the property iOS Options > Image compression : Color reduction?

Olivier - I'm using Image Compression = None.

StingRay - none of this seems to be the issue, if my iPad 4 Retina uses sRGB with Gamma 2.2 then that is the same as Windows but the colour still looks different. I also tried the screenshot process but when I open the iPad image on PC the RGB values still match exactly. So why does it still look different?

It's interesting to note that primary and secondary colours look similar. Do you think you could make a solid png image with R - 32, G - 64, B - 128 and compare the output on both device and PC? Since this is the colour that appears very different on my hardware.

    Thanks!
