Ball / Round object physics (ball won't stop)

    Hi guys,

Currently making a prototype where the players character throws a round object, the round object must stop, and then turn in to another object.

I'm currently stuck on that second step...

The object is set to pinball movement, to bounce when it collides with a backdrop, and to change to a static movement when it collides with a backdrop AND its speed is below X.

The problem is, when it slows down it continues to bounce up and down 1 pixel while also travelling to the left.

Any idea what's going on here?

I guess I need to understand MMF collisions more.

This may be what your looking for: Just get rid of the second movement all together and then stop it and create an explosion.

I've made a .mfa for you, complete with explosion and all.

I hope it works for you!

I won't be able to check that out until tonight but I'm guessing that I could change the explosion to the creation of a new object.

Just to point out, its not a grenade I'm throwing.

Ok then! May I ask, if it isn't a grenade you're throwing, why is the frame labeled "Grenade Throw Test"?

Haha, I guess it was just the effect I was going for. Just not exactly...

Never mind, I'll check out the .MFA very soon. Appreciate the help!

    Hi!

I just checked it - thanks, it works great... however...

Wanting the location of the 'ball' to be quite precise, and not for it to explode, I need the ball to stop on the surface it's resting on. I mean, what happens after should be easy enough (replacing the object).

I've changed the code slightly and it seems to work once out of every three times - the ball slows down, changes movement type, a falls to the ground, stopping there. Most of the time it just freezes in mid-air.

I thought by changing it to Platform Movement gravity would affect it and make it fall down...

    Any ideas?

This seems to work fine on my end. There's no freezing in midair or any discernible problem for that matter.

Your code looks good, but I can't find any issue... Also, here is my fix, but with an animation change rather than a creation.

That's an interesting way of doing it - and it works!

With the previous version the object would freeze several pixels off of the ground, I assume when it changed Movement type.

Anyway, hopefully I can work with this method.

    I appreciate your help!

In the meantime, if anyone else comes along and as another method they can teach me, I'd still be interested to learn. Can't ever learn too much!
