Anyhow for my game I'm using some black active objects for darkness areas and it works but slows everything down when the camera scrolls. To combat this, I can use HWA 3D8 or 3D9. Using 3D9 has been recommended to me by many people because more extensions and etc can support it. The problem is that when I do this it always blurs my graphics and I've tried everything to get them pixelated and old school again and nothing works. I mean EVERYTHING, it just doesn't work and I'm okay with that.
So I tried 3D8 and that #1 fixed my slowdown problems 100% and #2 kept my graphics looking like how they should look. It was great until I went to play the .exe on my computer and whenever it'd normally go to do an inverted ink effect (when the character or an enemy got injured they flash a bit) it'd crash every time. At first I thought "oh great, this is crap and will crash for everyone" but for HOO-HAH's I tried it on a slightly more recent computer and the game ran perfectly, showed inverted ink effects, and didn't crash at all.
I guess my main concern now is that I'd like to continue to make my game in 3D8 since it can solve my problems and keep my game looking how it should, but I don't want to release a product that might be unstable on X% of the end user's computers. Has anyone built a game using 3D8 and had a lot of complaints or feedback about the game crashing on others?
Thank you!
