    Endless scrolling background

Can anyone please tell me how I make an endless scrolling background?
Found one video on youtube but it was in french and he used readymade stuff from the library and never showed what to do in the event editor.
What I do know is that he only used one image and made it wrap automaticalle.

    Please help!

If you use layers you can put "wrap horizontally" to make it neverending and you might also want to edit the "x-coefficient", what it does it determine at which RELATIVE speed the layer will move in regard to the "camera"(?). So if you focus the frame on your character and have a x-coefficient of 2 on the background layer it will move twice as fast as the character. For a background that is distance you probably want something between 0.5-0.7 though.

What you also can do, like I did with clouds in the foreground first, is making them an active object and use the "path movement" to make them move through the screen and then use the "loop" and "reposition at end" option.

I used to have an example of a guy running with a background that kept moving back endlessly to show a parallax effect, but now I can't find it. If I come across it, I may send it over.

But really, all you need to do is make the background an active, and make it always move left or right, and then reposition it when it hits a certain edge of the screen.

EDIT: Something like this? It's a very simple background scroll that keeps moving. Oh..... I saved it in CT 2.5, if that makes any difference. The oldest file I have of this is in the old MMF CCA format. :P

You do the same thing with backgrounds moving left/right endlessly. Except that you change the X velocities of the background with new Y velocities. And maybe reposition the stage background to the top end of the screen when it hits the bottom.

    You use the layer object.

    1. Insert a new layer to be used as your scrolling background.
Tick "Wrap Vertically" in layer properties.

    2. Insert Layer object in the app so you can control the layer settings at runtime.

    3. In the event editor create an 'always' event. Go the layer object column, pick Layers --> By name/index --> Set Y-position

    4. In the expression editor, right-click the layer object, pick Layers --> By name/index --> Get Y-position --> add '- 1' to the expression.

This will make the bg-layer constantly shift down one pixel and wrap. Customize it to your game values of course!
