The Free version might have things disabled, since it can only do HTML5 and nothing else.

    Thanks KLik-iT and Perry.

Yes, I already tried re-installing the software - it remained the same.
Here are the screen shots comparing the 'Samples' options with the 'Music' options - all the 'Music' options are greyed out. I wonder which condition(s) are not being fulfilled that would enable the 'Music' options? Probably something very simple?

The "Play Music" is disabled in Free since those formats can not be used in HTML5
If you purchased the full version you can use "Play Music" to play midi files in executable windows releases.

As others have mentioned -- Don't be overly concerned about the label "Play Music"
Its only a separator label for the 2 formats of sounds files

Music is for MIDI type of files
Samples is for WAV type of files (or OGG as its a lot smaller)

Many thanks for clarifying the issue, Jeff. I feel confident about buying the standard package now.

I would to like reiterate how much fun I had following the Chocobreak tutorial, and that I look forward to further adventures making games using Fusion 2.5.

Thank you to everyone who offered help answering my questions - it shows that a supportive community of gamers are to be found on the forum!!

thanks from a first day chocobreak learner - learnt now to play mp3 etc via play sample and avoid play music
do agree that it should be a bit clearer that a) greyed out cos i have html5 installed (!?) and b) it should be play midi
