Here's an example of how to flash the screen when an explosion happens using only a 2x2 active object and scaling. It's fully adjustable. Just change the value of the flash up or down on line 3. It's set to add 6 now. This is a full game with only 11 events. Hit the TNT with the cross hairs to destroy it and add one point to your score.
