How to do on screen touch Joystick for Android?

    Hey guys

I have never done anything with Joysticks before, and I want to do an onscreen touch joystick for an Android game. How do I do that for Android? What am I supposed to use onscreen in game that the players interact with? How do I set up the interactive element, controlling movement and manipulating the Joystick graphic?

Just to clarify, I'm looking for a joystick that provides 'up/down/left/right' movement, not 2 button movement. I know how to use the mouse to click buttons, but I'm not sure how to get a 4 directional joytstick working.

    Thanks

I have now answered my own question. I found this tutorial: http://community.clickteam.com/threads/87273-Android-on-screen-joystick-example?highlight=Android+Joystick

I was a bit confused though, because when I tested the game in Windows the Joystick didn't come up. It only seems to come up when testing on the phone. Is there a way to make it appear when testing in windows?

Also for anyone elses information, you can change the images for the joystick under the 'Android' tab and the 'Images' heading.
To control the joystick, You create a new event and under the player object you right click t and go to 'Joystick > Repeat while Joystick pressed'.

Thanks so much for posting an answer to your question. This helped me a lot! I wish there was a way to re-position the joystick anywhere on the screen...

Is there away to show the joystick while testing in Windows and have the ability to use it with the mouse?

    Seems silly if you cannot!

    Thanks
    Dave.

I tried this from one of first android beta's in 2011/2012 but it never works. Now it's 2016 and
the position of the joystick stays in the left corner at the edge of the screen.

Set your application to Android/Ouya. Input Joystick Control Object. In the event editor set the Joystick to start and its position.
In the Frame properties set the device to controled by extention.
