Add a "String Object" to your frame that says 'Game Over'. Then under it's properties, click the second icon (the display options) and uncheck "Visibile at start." (This will make the object turn into an 'abc' icon in the frame.) Also under its properties, you can change the font settings like size and color.

Remove the "Jump to next frame" from your event line and replace it with two lines of code. First, right-click on your string object and select Visibility -> Make Object Reappear. Second, right-click on the timer object and select Fire event after given delay. Select the amount of time for the delay and name it "wait" (keep it in "quotes").

    Then add another condition line:

Condition: Timer -> On Event -> "wait"
    Action: Jump to Next Frame

Use an Active object, and put the text in, if there is no String object(?)
(idk, with the free version, if you need to download the extensions in the manager)

    What you could do is
Show the Active with the text.
Create a timer that is waiting for an x amount of time.
    and create an event

    +On Timer Event "continue game"
    - Jump to Frame ...

Or just the event how Ziplock have it shown.
    Either way that should work.

You don't need a timer. just a simple counter will do.

Set the counter to add to itslef once the player is dead, then test the counter if it reaches, for example (500), then display "Game Over".

This will give you some "pause" time before displaying the message.

And of course, make the counter hidden
