How do I put a save function in my game? Please let me explain.

I'm making a game, my game is an extremely hard platformer.

I want to be able to have the player save where they are at, say they are at Level 5 or Frame 6, and they save. How would I go about making a save-function so progress is not lost?

Explain to me like I'm 5.

Use the Ini object to save values in a file. See examples for this object in /examples/ directory

Basically, you'll have to keep track of all variables you can think of,
    i.e.:
    -current frame number
    -player x,y position
    -player health
    -powerups taken
    etc. etc.

On "save" store them in the container you prefer
(ini, array, list, ass.array, named variable obj, etc etc... each one has its own pro-cons)
and save on disk its specific file format.

    On loading,
retrieve those values and assign them/behave consequently.

    You could use this:
    http://clickstore.clickteam.com/easy-load-save-system

Does it out of the box for you. Otherwise, code it yourself - with ini file or with arrays.

Just make sure not to write those variables on every loop! That slows the game wayyy down (though haven't tested with solid state drives, but even then I wouldn't recommend it). Use either the Named Variable Object to write and store the values, or if you have compatibility with other platforms in mind for the future, write the values to an active object and store them in the INI on the save event.
