    Adding to an ini file

    Hey all,

    I'm creating a app for work, which basically calculates the distance between schools that our technicians travel from and records the time, pre-determined distance etc

    I believe the idea is to have an app for android/ios although be accessible via the web too.

    I ideally want to use some kind of database, but for the time being i'd like to do the following :

    Once "submitted" the data is added to the ini like this:

    [Time]
    Hour=14
    Minutes=43
    [Date]
    Day=26
    Month=6
    Year=2015
    [Travel]
    Departure= A
    Destination= B
    Miles=1.4

    However, if i submit again it would overwrite these values. I'd like to keep adding to the ini like..

    [Time]
    Hour=10
    Minutes=20
    [Date]
    Day=25
    Month=6
    Year=2015
    [Travel]
    Departure= C
    Destination= F
    Miles=5.5

    [Time]
    Hour=14
    Minutes=43
    [Date]
    Day=26
    Month=6
    Year=2015
    [Travel]
    Departure= A
    Destination= B
    Miles=1.4

    Ideally if i go this way, then at the end of the month i could somehow send this file to a computer and have excel put it into a document ready for printing if possible.

    I'm open to any other ideas!

    P.S - as a side note, when i join two strings together -

    string$( "Depart" ) + string$( "dest" )

    They join like "AB" instead of "A B". Any help to get a gap in between?

    Thanks as always

    you are saving it to the group [Time]
    Just change the group. ie. add the day behind it. so it becomes [Time 01] [Time 02]
    or change the group to [Day 01] [Day 02] etc. to make it more readable
    that will solve your problem

    ps.. or just create the group item by Date

    Thanks for replying. How would the ini know that data already exists? I guess it could check the ini for a group called [day one]? Might be a bit if a faff though.

    Also, if multiple journeys are done in the same day and need to be recorded.

    In that case, then I would use like [entry 01] entry 02] etc. and read the sections so you know which one is last.
    then increment the counter for the entry. (replace the 01, 02 for a counter) and work with that, to make your entries.
