NEUROTRON - The cyberpunk action RPG

Hello guys and welcome to the world of Neurotron! It's been a while since the Rayhouse crew has last posted on the forums, but we've been cooking up something special.

Two years ago, we began on a project, which could be bluntly called "HeroQuest in a cyberpunk setting". Yes, an adventure board game. After one failed Indiegogo campaign and a lot of hype which went to deaf ears, we decided to turn that concept into an realtime action rpg.

The story begins with a classic cat and mouse game, where the player's party, a resistance group, is pitted against huge goliath of a megacorporation, called the The Family. The fight for liberty is being fought in this futuristic megacity, where all the grimiest predictions of the future have come true.

A plan is made to hunt for the lost data crystal of the Company, the Neurotron, which could turn the tide of war. Too bad though, that the corporation's security leader, Marcus, is preparing a weapons satellite. It could potentially seek out and fry every neuron in every rebel's body on the planet! So, the time is running out, and it's your duty to lead these resistance fighters to victory.

In the game you take control of up to 5 player characters (3 in the demo), and you explore the grungy environments of this dystopian future, kill a bunch of enemies on the way, and search the scenery for any possible loot.

The game will be out on Android and HTML5 later this year, and on iOS in the near future. PC version of the game is not currently on our to-do list, and has no release date as of now.

We would very much appreciate if you could follow Neurotron on Facebook or Twitter. We're also on SlideDB. Thanks!

Any comments and or feedback is also welcome

In my opinion this is most impressive finnish android rpg -game. <- What a word monster. All worth it.

There┤s so nice graphical design for the characters, levels etc.
Sidescroller Rpg can┤t give so much than this to players.
Topdown have so many good features for Android tablets etc. playing can be more intensive than sidescroller platformers.

Thanks, guys! We decided to go for the topdown view simply for functionality sake, and also to keep that little board game vibe to it.

The game has RPG elements, like upgradeable skills for the player characters, but the main focus is on the fluent gameplay. We try to create a series of combat scenarios, with arena fight type feeling, which are paced with some slower puzzle parts and story-based exploration bits. Between missions you get to browse the new upgrades, weapons and equipment for your characters.

We're still in the progress of implementing the story in-game in a way that it doesn't interfere with the gameplay, but is in the background at all times. All in all, we intend to keep the game fast-paced and constantly interesting.

Hello there! It's been a while, and we've been busy here at Rayhouse Productions. We originally intended to release a playable demo in September, but that proved to be an impossible task, and we didn't want to rush out anything half-baked.

Now we're aiming for a November release for the demo, but that is only an estimation right now. We've lately worked on the inventory, shop and Infodex systems. Between missions you can shop weapons, equipment and upgrades for the characters, and that's what we've been coding. It's a lot of work, and a lot of it still needs to be done, but it's gonna be great once it's finished.

We're constantly updating our SlideDB site and our Facebook page, so be sure to check those out! There's still no release date for the finished game, but we're aiming to complete the game by the end of year 2015.

Thank you, arthurh! We now have four missions in the game, the fourth one is still WIP. Before we can launch a demo, we need to put a bit more polish to the gameplay and refurbish the cinematics. We don't want to release anything sub-par, because this is our very first commercial product.

Here's a post I wrote a week ago about the gameplay features to SlideDB:

    Story campaign

Neurotron has a continuous story, which has a beginning, midpoint and an end. Between missions we get to see prerendered cinematics, which go through the characters and backstory. The story deals with the struggle in the fictional Amerac City. It is an autonomous region controlled by The Family corporation. During missions player gains loot, explores the changing scenery and engages in realtime combat with the enemies.

    Every character makes a difference

In the full version player takes control of up to five rebel characters. Each of them has a special gift, ranging from strong mechanical limbs, to the ability to cast psionic projections. The characters are from around the globe, with different backgrounds, and they've all come to Amerac for a different reason. You command the rebel party, one fighter at a time, squad-based action game style. Different missions require different skills, but all of the fighters are important for the story.

    Tons of weapons

The guns in the game range from ballistic firearms to more futuristic energy weapons. The robotic enemies in the game go down easier with an EMP rifle and the living foes can be eliminated faster with a heatray gun. Each foe has a weakness and a strength, some of them attack you from a distance and some of them only engage in melee combat. The arsenal has something for everyone, literally.

    Random + Math = Fun

Neurotron is not just about killing enemies and gaining loot. The places where the enemies spawn, the loot which can be found, even some of the events and map pieces, are determined by a random factor. No playthrough of the game is alike. The missions also have some destructible scenery, props take damage during the firefights and bursts of violence. Sparks fly, furniture shatters, smoke rolls and shells pile up on the floor.

    Choose your playstyle

Like all the little random things, also your playstyle may vary. You may choose to command the Cyborg first and head against the enemies with pure melee attack. Or you might take the Psychic and attack the enemies with his psionic abilities. Also the way you upgrade your characters, buy them equipment and weaponry, may be changed in each playthrough. You can make your Hacker melee only, or your put all your credits to the Clone's upgrades, or load all the best equipment for your Agent. You cannot afford everything, so what you choose really makes a difference!

We also released a new gameplay trailer yesterday. Enjoy!

Thanks, Jeff! We've really tried to take most out of Fusion 2.5. Now I'm in the progress of updating the fighter icons in the UI. Here's a rendering of the Cyborg from up close:

And here's the work in progress icon in the game. I'm also rehauling the whole look of the UI, to be more cyberpunkish and techy.

    More updates coming soon!
