Wow, how the times have changed!
This story could be interesting, though I sure do hope the game keeps at least some of the lighthearted tone it originally had, maybe even just some extra-silly easter eggs here and there, since the art-style definitely has a more lighthearted feel to it.
Not criticizing the fact that it seems to have full-on story now, though! I certainly am curious to see where this goes, regardless of whether or not it turns out lighthearted in the end (for all I know, it could be better as a non-lighthearted game if it doesn't turn out to be one).
The game actually has lighthearted and serious moments. This is actually done through the characters. For example, Quips is a jokester, but Riel is a cold-hearted spy.
One of my favorite moments in the game is an achievement you can get from Quip. The achievement is called "Lighting Money on Fire". The method of receiving it goes like this...
Quip notices that you're collecting quite a lot of money. He also needs to light his cigar. He then asks you to "Light my cigar won't ya?" If you pay him a level's worth of money, he will be able to smoke. He then barely finishes it, and he hands it to you. You then get the upgrade "Quip's Barely Finished Money Cigar with an Overly Excessive Name" along with the "Lighting Money on Fire" achievement. The upgrade allows you to smoke mid level. After smoking, the controls will be inverted. If you smoke 10 times within a level. You will get the achievement "Addict".
Just to make sure... you didn't lose the source code, right? If so... ouch, that'd be... well, it'd be very problematic.
Here's to hoping that you don't encounter such severe technical difficulties again for a long, long time (preferably never again, obviously).
I don't want to jinx it, but... I agree.
Here's to hoping for a technical free future!
I have some good new for once.
Spring break is coming soon for me.
I'm also making decent progress on a new mechanic for the game.
For now, let's just say...
the new mechanic is 'decisive'.
