    microphone input with DB meter

Hello everyone. Been a while since my last post. Just curious if there is a way to manipulate the mci object to make a volume meter. Better yet, an object that can detect if someone is speaking into the microphone. Not for speech recognition or anything, but just volume detection. Thanks for your time.

Unfortunately, there isn't just with the standard MCI afaik. I have tested this in the past. The best way is to search for an ActiveX MCI control that already has these features coded in, or you can code up an ActiveX in Basic to utilise these functions of the MCI controls. Alternatively, you could create an ActiveX control that works with DirectSound and plugin although the former would be easier.

This really will be a trial and error process but there will eventually be a way you could make it work.
