MMORPG? I've made the RPG part,

I am not familiar with networking and was wondering what Fusion Dev 2.5 is capable of..
My RPG is a pokemon like movement featuring resource gathering (aka wood, rock) and crafting from your inventory. At best I would like a server system similar to Runescape although LAN would also be nice.

I have read posts mainly stating Lacewing was good to use but how many players would a hosted server be capable of holding? The game holds a pretty heavy amount of code although on screen all you are able to see is the player, gui (inv, crafting), enemys and resources.

Thankyou. I'm also interested in engines that are for sale using clickteam

If you are new to networking, I wouldn't recommend trying an MMORPG just yet. Even simple MMORPGs are very complicated internally and you'll most likely get burned out. You'll learn more (and have more fun) if you start simple. I'd recommend making a very simple 2-player networked game first, so you can get a handle on the basics.

That having been said, I haven't done much with Lacewing, but I don't think you need to be concerned about player count. That will be more of a limitation of game server itself. Your server will have to handle a tremendous networking load, so you probably don't want to write it in Fusion; something like C++ or Python would be preferable. It'll take messages from every client in the game world, and send only relevant data back to each client. So, all Lacewing would need to handle is messages regarding the players in your immediate vicinity, since that's all the server will be sending it anyway.

Actually, you might be able to write the server in Fusion if you're clever about it. I don't see any reason why not if Lacewing can handle all those connections. Only way to know for sure is to test it yourself.

I've made a MMORPG in Clickteam Fusion (actually it was back on MMF2), the best way of going through is writing a server in Python or C++ using Lacewing. I wrote all the code on my server, and it works pretty well. I must also note that's not very trivial to do and you'll be facing many challenges like synchronizing data, solid database structure and management, and lots of real programming. But with study(you gonna need knowledge outside clickteam fusion software) and some effort it can definitely can be done. My server is on I believe it's been 5 years now. You can go ahead and connect to see how it works. It's a turn based mmorpg with PvM, PvP, party system, quests, and pretty much everything a mmorpg has. www.thereturnofmagic.com.

It's been a while I updated the game tough, it may be a little abandoned.

If the link above isn't working. try this: http://www.moddb.com/games/the-return-of-magic-online

Thanks, It was a really ambitious a too great project to do on my own. sadly I have no way of maintaining or updating it since I have no staff to do so. But I intend to keep the servers on.
