    I allways suggest to use a Base Object in conjuction with a Sprite Object.
    If you don't there can be inconsistencies in obstacle overlapping, as animations change an overlap obstacles/ walls when they shouldn't ( potentially resulting in player getting stuck in the obstacle )
    You could get away with only having 1 Sprite object and avoid this inconsistency by fine tuning the animations to not exceed certain X and Y boundaries, but then it becomes cumbersome if you want to change, alter or add new animations.

    Having said this I'm not sure this is the case for you.

    ...
    The basis for wall climbing is to be able to detect if the Player is standing next to an Obstacle or not.
    If you have the collisions consistent as mentioned above, you can easily detect this:

    + Allways
    -> Set flag OFF

    + Allways
    -> Set Object X pos to Object X pos -1

    + If Object overlaps Obstacle
    -> Set flag ON

    + Allways
    -> Set Object X pos to Object X pos +2

    + If Object overlaps Obstacle
    -> Set flag ON

    + Allways
    -> Set Object X pos to Object X pos -1

    ^ In the above, flag will represent if Player is next to a wall or not, and you can then change the movement logic for both states ( set gravity, speed, what have you )

    i may be wrong because imn guessing from the screenshot. but looking at your screenshot get rid of the repeat while. it will constantly change the animation to climbing forcing the animation to start from the first frame over and over.

    JDKW,

    I just was using PMO for the first time and ran into this very same question. Someone directed me to the PMO example file in the "Help" section on your MFA application. Check it out. It shows how to do what your asking and more! Hope this helps.

    Thank you for your respones.. but
    My character is already climbing up and down the ladder correctly, the animation is what won't work (gets stuck on frame 1 for some reason)
    i just checked the help file as EMERSON suggested but the animation examples are only for moving to the sides etc..
    any other ideas?

    Oh, the problem is obvious.
    You need to add 'only 1 action when event loops' to the Event that sets the climbing animation.

    At the top of Event#51 add the condition 'only 1 action when Event loops'.

    Not sure it will fix everything, but should make the climbing animation play ( assuming Event#51 only changes animation ).
    As you don't have this 'only one action when event loops' condition, the Entire Event is ALLWAYS true and the animations keeps resetting and hench only displays animation frame 1/ appears not to play.

    i just Added only 1 action when event loops at the top of event 51, but still no luck.
    any other suggestions

    I think the problem is caused because
    as long as the object is overlapping the ladder sensor the animation is only going to play frame 1 cause it is repeating the event over and over..

    make sure you're disabling all your other animations (stopped, falling, jumping, walking etc.) because if those events are firing, it won't not play the climbing animation.
