    Pick 1 of 4 numbers

Hey, kids! I want to repeatedly pick 1-4 at random, but I need to:

    a) Pick all 4 numbers before it cycles again
    b) Not pick the same number twice in a row

My workaround right now sucks. Anyone have an elegant way of accomplishing this?

The Random Pool object works for this, or use the list object. Put all your numbers in the list, then pick a line randomly, get the number, delete the line. Repeat until the list is empty.

    You can try http://www.xable.us/custom-random-pool.php.

It'll let you cycle through a list of numbers/data. You may, however, pick the same number at the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new cycle, though this can resolved by storing the last number picked and extending the concept in the tutorial by also checking the current number against the last number.

This is how I do it although it's still a workaround because I don't know the math equation for 1-4 except 2, and 1-4 except 3. If someone happens to know those equations then this MFA might work well

I need the numbers to cycle through all 4 before they repeat, Beejers.

Random pool works, but it's basically the workaround I had. I had objects instead of groups though. Thx, guys.

    Hey Ziplock,

I don't know if this is what your looking for but this is from the Block type game that you helped me with! Cheers!

Yeah, pretty much what I'm doing, it was the not repeating the same number between the end of 1 cycle and the start of the 2nd that I was trying to fine tune. But I guess I'm not going to get it easier than this:

    dramatically ugly solution:

    pick_4.mfa

(but doesn't involve creating objects and *theorically* long loops, for what's worth..)

I have the same feeling we're overlooking something much more elegant, Ziplock,
but can't think of anything right now
