Maybe. There is a fix for iOS in build 287.3, but I'm not sure if it makes OGG playback possible without the WAV conversion process:

    http://bugbox.clickteam.com/issues/3328

Edit: I had no time to test it, but I read the bug report again and I'm pretty sure OGG files will play natively now!

This is good news. Thank you Simflare, without your post I hadn't started investigation.

287.3 was the first version with OGG sounds capabilities, but had some bugs that were corrected and will be available in version 287.4.

What other music types can be used?

I don't want to use mp3 or any other type that may require royalties.

Mp3 doesn't require royalties. But your choices for iOS are currently wav, MP3 or ogg.

Mobichan what do you mean mp3 don't require loyalties? I have done much reading on this subject and from all that I've read, you do need to pay loyalties for using mp3's. However, I'm not sure that this has ever been enforced.

    Note:IANAL DYOR!

MP3 licensing has always been a bit of a minefield.

In the Europe Union, the patents have expired. In the USA, to all intents and purposes, mp3 patents will expire at the end of 2017. I don't know if the location relates to the developer who is using the mp3 technology, or the end-user, so I have no idea if a license is required for a developer in Europe, who sells apps on the USA app stores! I suspect it refers to the developer's location, but I really don't know for sure.

If you look at the official mp3 licensing web site (link below), it advises that for games: "No license fees are due if less than 5,000 copies of a particular game title are distributed". The problem is, what is meant by 'distributed'? - if the game is online, is that 5,000 plays?

With regards to licensing fees, the patent holders took 100million euros (equivalent to about the same in US$) in fees in 2005, so it's definitely been enforced!

    Going with wav.
Are there any problems/royaltys with that that I might not know about?
