Can't open mfa file anymore due to speechbubble.mfx. Help!

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I made a small game for a game jam the other day, and for one frame I decided to try the speech bubble object to display dialogue. While it worked perfectly fine while testing the game out, when I tried to build everything it gave me a message saying that speechbubble.mfx wasn't compatible with the build type I'd selected (.exe). I'd had similar issue with other extensions before, but they'd all been fixed by either reinstalling them or copying the .mfx files to other folders. I closed the file and tried the former, and when I opened it again I received the following message:

This application has been saved with the Unicode version of the following extensions:
    Speech Bubble (speechbubble.mfx)
Install the Unicode version of these extensions and then restart the program.

I tried reinstalling speech bubble again to no avail. I tried putting the .mfx file in multiple other folders includin the Unicode folder, and it still wouldn't open. I even tried sending the mfa to another person with Fusion and they got the same error when trying to open it that I did. I tried searching for a unicode version online, but I couldn't find anything except the original MMF2 extension pack that it was included in which doesn't work with 2.5.

What should I do? Is there anyone who has the unicode version of speechbubble.mfx? Or does anyone know another way to access my game? Any help would be appreciated!

  • I don't think there's a unicode version of speechbubble.mfx... at least I don't have one in my folders (but I do have the extension installed)

It's weird that it is saying it's a unicode version of the extension...

The reason you go the "wasn't compatible with build type" might be because the .mfx didn't live in the runtime folder located:

    Clickteam Fusion Developer 2.5\Data\Runtime

So try to copy the speechbubble.mfx into there? Mine is 24KB in that Runtime folder though, and 39KB in the extensions folder so I'm not sure what the difference is.

I'm not sure that would fix the issue you're having but it wouldn't hurt to make sure. Worst case maybe you can send the mfa to Clickteam and they can modify it somehow to allow it to be opened

  • You could try just copying any other Unicode extention and renaming it to speechbubble.mfx
Won't let you use speechbubble, but you should be able to open the file.
