Quote from YankovicFanWho said I couldn't walk
I might post a lot of questions and such here on the forums but I have a firm grasp on a lot of the essentials to games, just lately I've been doing more of useful tools that are not as easy for me. I have set out a plan, I drew maps for my world I'm making, figured out how it will work, everything. I'm using 100 frames, a 10x10 grid of platforming levels interconnected together. I learned a year ago not to start something without a plan, and this time I have a thorough plan, plot, everything. The game itself is pretty basic, just a platformer. It will just take so long making every level and designing graphics. I refuse to use anything but my own graphics now.
Sounds like you really have the drive to go ahead with the idea.
[laugh] The only reason i mentioned the learning to walk bit, is because you mentioned no large game design attempts previously. A lot of talk in the forums lately have been discussions about making "complete" small games first before attempting large complicated projects that are sure to fail in doom and gloom. Most people are talking from experience with the same design aspirations in the past.
-For instance a game a large as 100 frames, would you or the player be burned out halfway through it?
-A game that large would also need some kind of Save routine, to continue from a last checkpoint in the game. Unless it's just so darn good that people won't mind restarting the game again and again.
-Lot of hand drawn artwork. I can tell you this is the most demanding part! I'd make a small complete hand drawn art driven game first just to see really how much work it entails.
-Just some thoughts.
-Whats the name of your game? Game Concept? Unless you want to keep all that private until it's well enough along in development.
-You've got the best tool for the job, so there's no doubt you won't be able to have something good.
-Pixel art is the best, have you played Cannon Fodder?
-[laugh] You've actually committed yourself to the game now.
-A few people are giving it a thumbs up and they are proven developers. [smile]
