I'd much rather have anroid/iphone support over java... java is going nowhere IMO.

Is Java Dead?
Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.
A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.
Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

well i think that's already the case, but outside of MMF2 it's there to stay for a long time...
-
Java would be good to have cause theres still mobile deveices that can only be serviced using Java (e.g. the older types)
-
The Java runtime still works! I correct the bugs as I receive them, so there is no reason not to use it for mobiles...
-
Francois, it'll be useful if you clarify my Please login to see this link., I'm not sure about what to do with some of the runtimes, in particular Java Blackberry runtime. I've instructed developers to send the extensions to use for advanced Java exporter conversions, I hope that advice is still valid.

Java seems to work best for my projets. I had some issues with java for Mac - main icon didn't run java app I had to open contents of the folder and look there for application to run it.
-
There is no specific developpement of an exension for Java Mac : to create a Mac Java application, I just wrap the Java files in a Mac executable...
The XNA SDK is available : Please login to see this link. -
Yeah, I can't edit the post though.
Kinda removes the point. I'm the type of guy who posts something, re-words it for clarity/anti-strife, and re-words it again...
If my user could get the "Edit time without adding a This Post Was Edited" time bumped up, that would be neat. -
About Java. I have so far only made projects for Exe and Flash, and I know how to "spread" the flash on the internet to get some money for it and look for sponsors and all that. But how do you spread your Java? Is there some place you can upload it so people can access it with their phones and are there similair ways to make some revenue with mochi like applications as for Flash?

Im actually testing java, i would like to know how to play a video, inside a java app, and whats the difference between java, and java web start???
ThanksPS: i know i can play avi files in java, but with what kind of compression????
-
Use the AVI object to play a video.
Java : applications like an exe, double click on them to launch them
Java Web Start : from your browser, the application will be automatically loaded and lanched -
I would like to hear what the forum members think. I don't think it is dead.

We had a talk about this in our Java class at college a couple of weeks back. My lecturer, Joe, said that because Java is a sandbox application deployment platform that can be deployed over the internet that he doesn't see its future ending anytime soon but it is interesting that (recently at least) Java programs don't run on Windows 8. Even if you install the Java runtime on Windows 8 and then launch a Java program, it won't run. Either Microsoft or Oracle (Java's current owners) need to address this but there are rumours going around that because Windows 8 has it's own App environment, Microsoft are pushing that platform over Java.
-
Wow. This ruins a lot of Java games and applications and I think it is a sad state of things.

-
Not really since most people will keep their current computers and still be able to play those games.
-
Plus I very much doubt Microsoft will just block out a huge game/app network like that. It's not a direct rival.

Windows 8 for x86 and x64 will support Java (Windows 8 Consumer Preview, i.e. the beta release, does run Java), but not the ARM version for tablets (Windows RT I believe that will be called).
I've had no problems running jAMOS on the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I wrote that in 100% Java.

Good news.

Google and Oracle seem to be at war right now over android which could effect things slightly but java is not going away any time soon however. If Microsoft blocked java use though they would be real idiots, blocking flash didn't work for iOS and instead it just helped every other company selling tablet devices with flash support as it was something many people wanted.

I hadn't heard about that. I wish companies would quit peeing on each other.
