Any good MMF2 tutorials for 3D?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

Clickteam.
  • ...it has graphics about as good as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (other than the lack of textures, the biggest downside is lack of real lighting, though that can be simulated by making the model itself have different shading on different polygons)

So in other words, it has graphics nowhere near as good as Wind Waker. Textures and realtime lightning are two of the most basic features found in every 3D engine made in the last 15+ years. Added to those, Wind Waker uses cel-shading, depth of field blurring and other advanced features. Unity3D offers you much more on top of that: Please login to see this link.

  • Wow - as good as Starfox?! So it's only a mere 20 years out of date then...

That made me laugh out loud, but honestly, MMF can't even pull that off. MMF is stuck in the past, it doesn't even have the option to change your game quality, something Flash has had since the day it came out. I don't understand why Clickteam spends their time making new exporters when they clearly haven't even finished their main product. It's not really even a matter of just 3D, I've had to cancel 3 2D games and 1 3D one because MMF2 is so god-awful.

I'm not saying I could make any better a program, but that's not my job.

If they're going to make such a scrawny and pathetic game developing program, they should at least tell people that it's worthless when it comes actual mainstream games instead of sugar-coating it with 'make games with no prior coding knowledge'. Honestly if I were you I would just move on to Construct 2, even for 2D, it's like Scirra took MMF2 out of the trash and actually did something good with it.

    That's my main.

  • While I agree that Construct 2 basically is MMF2 but improved in almost nearly every way... Construct 2 has its own problems... like dealing with saving/loading to files, no real networking, and the biggest one of all... it's all HTML5... which is severely limiting and means you have to push everything through a browser. Plus good luck getting something like Steamworks integration into an HTML5 game.

So for now, MMF is still my program of choice... But man do I ever wish it had the features and power of Construct 2 in all the other ways. It's unfortunate that Clickteam just isn't large enough to get MMF3 here sooner... and then I'm worried about MMF3 not living up to all the hype because Clickteam isn't open about what MMF3 is or what it will be...

I mean, let the community get involved more. We're the ones who will be the majority of purchases for MMF3... we want it to work better and have the features we're asking for. But if Clickteam is just going to surprise us one day with MMF3 and not let us help build it, then I can't see MMF3 being as great as it could be.

  • Well. I haven't seen any hype. For 7 years Clickteam have read the forums and have listened to forum members through emails and PM's. They are always open to suggestions and they will implement those suggestions if possible. Email Y and/or F and make suggestions. Personally I have never seen such a dedicated team of developers who work so close with the user base.

  • Marv, do any of the users here know what MMF3 will contain though? What it will look like? What features it will have?

All we've done is make countless posts about the features we want to see implemented, but we haven't heard anything from Clickteam about MMF3 really at all.

I don't even have the vaguest idea of where the progress is at for MMF3... For people trying to make a living with game development, knowing when new software is going to be released and what it's capable of is definitely a huge thing. I don't like that Clickteam treats MMF like it's just a casual tool for hobbyists and not something an indie developer could use seriously. I don't like MMF3 being hidden away like it's a new gaming console and we don't get to see the specs until a month before release. We should know everything there is to know about MMF3's development. We are the key users and we're the ones supporting Clickteam to even make MMF3 a reality. I'm not saying we should be able to demand features or anything, but man... at least let us know the progress and what to expect.

Should I keep investing time and money into MMF? That's what I want to know.

  • You should read Please login to see this link.. Please login to see this link. in particular. Francois has been talking about it/mentioning it a little there (not much, though).

My Please login to see this link. (which I actually use), my Please login to see this link. (which I mostly don't use), and my Please login to see this link. (which I don't use anymore pretty much at all really). If there are awards for "'highest number of long forum posts", then I'd have probably won at least 1 by now. XD

Read it already. Actually I commented that exact post as well. :p

But yeah, there's barely anything in that post.

I understand that Construct has it's own issues, but it's so much newer than MMF2 that that's to be expected. Maybe 8 years ago these things would be acceptable but as of now it's just getting pathetic. Also, the Construct developers are continuously updating their software, and have given expected dates for when things will be finished/fixed. Personally, I have seen plenty of development teams much more dedicated to improving their program than Clickteam.

    That's my main.

  • Well one of the main reasons that Construct gets such frequent updates is that the guy is only having to program for HTML5 support. Clickteam would need to add features that could be supported across multiple platforms.

Though I really don't see why it would be a lot of work to add in something like sub-conditions to MMF... seeing as how it seems like just one extra check that the main code would need to look for when checking conditions/actions... It would be a monsterous improvement for flexibility in MMF2... but I feel like they aren't bothering with stuff like that and are just going to put it in MMF3... or are they? I have no idea since they don't respond to stuff like that.

Hopefully a lot will be revealed at the Click Convention...

    Would you please name some.

I disagree with your statement. The Clickteam developers are on the forums constantly helping and getting ideas. They work on their products almost every day. I know this from beta testing the products they develop and are on the beta forums every day making changes.

I ask that you give it a rest and back Clickteam and not bash them. It would greatly benefit the community, as the new people freak out when they see posts such as yours.

    Thanks,

  • I know how useful things like sub-conditions would be, but a lot of changes like this that seem pretty simple would actually require major changes in the editor and all of the runtimes, under the hood.

We've put a lot of effort into getting the infrastructure in place to make things like this easy to implement in the Fusion 3 codebase, and we're really looking forward to being able to show it to you. But any time spent making big changes like this in MMF2 would take valuable time away from Fusion 3 development, so we have to strike a careful balance.

  • Please login to see this link. is a link to a clone of the game Minecraft which was created using Multimedia Fusion 2.

As clearly shown, MMF2 is entirely capable of 3D graphics !

Nivram, reading the thread i really appreciate your logically steadfast mind, thanks for your inputs.

LavaFlaminG6. The next time you feel frustrated into slinging mud at kind developers or pushing blame on-to capable IDEs ... Check whether you're just incapable. and please, keep your close-minded perspective to yourself.

( Forgive me for reopening an old thread )

  • I agree with Konidias that CT needs to be more open... EVERYTHING is a secret.. I can't get any kind of ETA on when the next beta/builds will be released.. I'd also like to know if F3 will be coming next year, the year after or 5 years from now.. do I start a fairly big 1 year+ project now.. or work on smaller stuff until F3 comes? I don't know..

They should make a rule to post tiny little updates in the news thread once a week, like

    - Android / iOS runtimes estimated new build on "date x"
    - Feature XYZ is being looked at
    - end of update!

and then if by the next week if it's not looking like they'll make the date, change the date to a later one.. I don't mind.. just give us something.

And whenever ANY kind of info is released on F3.. it should be posted/updated in a sticky news thread somewhere.. users shouldn't have to scour obscure blogs / random threads to find tiny bits of cryptic information..

  • And I just wanted a simple square plane (guess another name for it is a Billboard?) (A picture frame really, not 3D) bouncing around in a 3D Floor. That OpenGL can do good right?
